Savoy/TMA Public Education Campus Plan
21st Century School Fund
The Savoy/TMA Public Education Campus encompasses the 3.5 acres that includes the Savoy Elementary School and the former Nichols Avenue School, now the fully modernized Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School (TMA) and a recreation center sponsored by the Department of Parks and Recreation. As a part of public initiatives to better utilize public land and buildings, the District of Columbia's disposition agreement for the Nichols Avenue School with Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School, required TMA to explore the feasibility of making improvements to Savoy Elementary School and creating a secure shared-use gymnasium and other community spaces for Savoy, TMA and the Department of Recreation at Savoy. This Savoy/TMA Campus Plan meets that requirement. The shared facility is planned to serve the needs of both public school programs, and also of a wider community of children, youth and adults, with programs and services provided by the Savoy Recreation Program and through partnerships with community based non-profits. This report includes the following information: (1) Project Background; (2) Project Rationale; (3) Proposed Project Options; (4) Project Estimates; and (5) Project Implementation. (Contains 2 footnotes, 8 tables, and 9 figures.) [This report was produced in part by Bowie Gridley Architects, Koczela and Associates, and JFW, Inc.]
