The Joys of Sixth Graders
Ruder, Robert
National Middle School Association (NJ3), Middle Ground v8 n4 p43 Apr 2005
After serving as a middle level principal for more than 20 years, the author recently became principal of a sixth grade school. The tone of the school was remarkably different from a 6-8 or 5-8 middle school. In this article, the author shares some of the things he has learned about sixth graders. While other factors do influence students' development, he believes that the school may be the most dynamic environment in terms of providing stability and consistency to students during and beyond their sixth grade year.
