The Red-Headed Stepchild: Give Us Some Respect
Wenzel, Alicia
National Middle School Association (NJ3), Middle Ground v10 n3 p32-33 Feb 2007
In this essay, the author laments the fact that middle schools are so often neglected both within and outside of the world of education. She issues a call to action for middle school teachers: in order to make communities aware of just how valuable middle schools are, educators should create opportunities to show off what their students are doing, and doing well. By making these connections with the community, middle school teachers will be able to change common perceptions about their students and help middle school education take its place next to the primary and secondary levels in the public eye.
