Break the Inservice Habit!

The author describes the disconnect between parents' and practitioners' perceptions of "inservice" days and discusses the importance of communicating the value of professional development to parents and other community members. Possible techniques include using clearer language in describing professional development, showcasing the time set aside for professional development activities by communicating about them through a variety of channels, and preparing teachers to talk about professional development in spontaneous conversations.
