Introduction to Educational Administration: Standards, Theories, and Practice
Fiore, Douglas
Eye on Education
This comprehensive and practical text introduces your students to concepts and theories of educational administration. It is unlike other texts which are structured in isolated units. Instead, the topics in this book are connected, presented in the context of the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) standards which reveal the real world of practicing school administrators. Even if your state has not officially embraced ISLLC, these concise standards provide a meaningful framework around which author Douglas Fiore has organized the field's knowledge base. Each chapter ends with a Summary, bulleted Chapter Highlights, Application Questions, and a Field Activity. This book is divided into 6 standards. Standard 1 presents: (1) Leading in the Contemporary School Setting; and (2) Leading Others through a Common Purpose. Standard 2 includes: (3) Nurturing the Instructional Program; (4) Extending the Curriculum beyond the School Day; and (5) Sustaining a Culture of Growth. Standard 3 continues with: (6) Balancing Management and Leadership; and (7) Managing Human Resources for a Safe, Effective Environment. Standard 4 includes: (8) Making Decisions in the Educational Arena; and (9) Sustaining Partnerships with Parents and the Larger Community. Standard 5 presents: (10) Understanding the Evolution of Public School's Purpose. Standard 8 concludes with: (11) Governance of Schools in a Legal & Political Environment. Appended is: Educational Leadership Standards and Successful Practices of School Principals. A list of references; and an index are also included.
