Highlights on DESD Progress to Date

This brief report, delivered after the completion of the 1st year of the United Nations (UN) Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD) (2005-2014), highlights the recent developments regarding the Decade (2005). It reports on the documents prepared, the regional and national launches of the Decade held so far and presents relevant publications and other products. This is a very small reflection of the extraordinary number of activities, events, networks and support for the DESD from countries, regions, civil society, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and stakeholders from all over the world reported every day to UNESCO Headquarters. These activities are creating immense energy and attention for the DESD, and daily UNESCO receives e-mails, phone calls, letters and visitors to share ideas and concrete initiatives, including artistic expressions, in support of the DESD. A brief list of selected documents and publications for the DESD conclude the report.
