Learning-Driven Schools: A Practical Guide for Teachers and Principals

While there are lots of books that explain the teaching process--how to plan a lesson, what kinds of activities to use--this is a book that starts with the real crux of the matter: how a teacher's students actually learn. A veteran teacher and principal explores the research on learning and describes how teachers can work backwards from learning goals to ensure all students reach their maximum potential. Included in the book's advice are specific remedies for better teaching, such as: (1) Why teachers should create "learner plans" rather than lesson plans; (2) Which teaching strategies make the best use of the research on how people learn; and (3) How to use simple classroom assessments to identify students' knowledge and alter one's instruction to meet their needs.
