Smith, Nancy L.
Jossey-Bass, An Imprint of Wiley
This book is a hands-on field manual for elementary school teachers. It features a range of activities that offer opportunities for reflection while enhancing student field experiences, through observation and practicum. The first section of the book provides activities that focus on collecting information about the school and its resources, and observing and interviewing children and teachers. Additional activities focus on working with children through games, technology and mini-lessons. Such activities come with reproducible manipulatives and materials that help make this text an excellent resource that educators can rely on throughout their teaching careers. The book is organized into two sections. The first section, In the School, contains the initial three chapters: (1) Learning about the School and Its Resources Content; (2) Observing the Teacher and Students Content; and (3) Interviewing the Teacher and Student Content. The second section, Helping Children Learn, contains the final three chapters: (4) Helping Children Learn with Games Content; (5) Helping Children Learn with Technology Content; and (6) Helping Children Learn: In the Classroom Lessons Content. The following is appended: Blackline Masters Content.
