Encouraging Positive Behaviour in the Early Years: A Practical Guide
Paul Chapman Publishing
With the introduction of the revised Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice in 2001/2002, the full range of early years care and education was required to plan and implement inclusion. This meant that many settings were included for the first time in far-reaching changes, designed to make sure that early years children who have special needs will, where possible and appropriate, be cared for and educated in a mainstream setting. Providers such as playgroups, registered child-minding networks, pre-school groups, private and non-maintained nurseries and private early years provision were among these settings. As a result, a group of early years practitioners with no experience in working with children who have special needs found themselves in need of training, information and support. Following an introduction, this book contains the following chapters: (1) "How to Make Sure Your Setting is Fully Inclusive"; (2) "How to Write a Positive Behaviour Policy for Your Setting"; (3) "How to Write Individual Education Plans to Encourage Positive Behaviour"; and (4) "How to Reduce Inappropriate Behaviours While Encouraging Positive Ones". The following sections are also included: (1) Glossary of Some Educational Acronyms; (2) Further Reading; and (3) Index.
