Encouraging Positive Behaviour in the Early Years: A Practical Guide

With the introduction of the revised Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice in 2001/2002, the full range of early years care and education was required to plan and implement inclusion. This meant that many settings were included for the first time in far-reaching changes, designed to make sure that early years children who have special needs will, where possible and appropriate, be cared for and educated in a mainstream setting. Providers such as playgroups, registered child-minding networks, pre-school groups, private and non-maintained nurseries and private early years provision were among these settings. As a result, a group of early years practitioners with no experience in working with children who have special needs found themselves in need of training, information and support.
