Improving Student Learning Through Integrated Assessment and Instruction
Nave, Gary; Bellamy, Peter
Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory NWREL
The purpose of this training manual is to provide teachers access to knowledge and skills to better implement classroom assessment practices that provide information to guide their instructional decisionmaking and, therefore, improve student learning. The primary training outcome is for teachers to learn how a standards-based educational framework can help them thoroughly reconsider and modify the courses they teach. The training is appropriate for teachers of all subjects in grades K-12. Each chapter provides clear directions for small teacher learning teams on how to use a six stage Teaching-Learning Cycle to design and implement more effective courses in which assessment and instruction are integrated and aligned to standards. Teachers will work through new content together, then implement the content in each of their classrooms, and finally share and discuss their experiences.
