Philadelphia's Teacher Hiring and School Assignment Practices. Comparisons with Other Districts. A Report from Learning from Philadelphia's School Reform
Useem, Elizabeth; Farley, Elizabeth
Research for Action
Many big-city school systems nationwide are modernizing, expediting, and decentralizing the ways in which teachers are recruited, hired, and placed in schools, as well as offering a range of new incentives to attract and retain teachers. Districts are rapidly adopting new employment processing technologies, notably automated applicant-tracking systems, online applications, and Internet job postings to help accomplish this goal. Philadelphia, too, is adopting technologies that speed and rationalize the hiring process.
