Kansas Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) Revised Guidance
Kansas State Department of Education
In the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001(NCLB), Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is based on the premise and promise that in 12 years, every child will be at a minimum proficiency on the state reading and mathematics assessments. The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requires that every student be tested. Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is the process for making judgment as to whether or not all public elementary and secondary schools, districts, and states are reaching the annual targets to ensure that all students achieve the state of Kansas's definition of proficiency by 2013-2014. This report provides guidance on implementation of Kansas's evaluation and accountability system relative to NCLB's AYP provisions.
