Safe Lanes on Campus. A Guide for Preventing Impaired Driving and Underage Drinking.
Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention, Newton, MA.
This publication describes a variety of prevention strategies that campus and community prevention coalitions can consider as they develop a strategic plan for combating underage drinking and DUI, with a particular emphasis on creating environmental change. This analysis is grounded in a summary of the research literature published in 2002 by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), "A Call to Action: Changing the Culture of Drinking at U.S. Colleges." With this publication, prevention planners can develop and implement strategies appropriate to their campus and community, based on an assessment of the environmental factors that encourage alcohol problems among local students and on the scientific evidence of what works.
