The Pennsylvania School Library Information Specialist Tool Kit for Implementing Information Literacy in Schools.

This tool kit begins with sections that define information literacy, identify information literacy skills, discuss the integration of information literacy into the K-12 curriculum, present an integration/collaboration model, and address collaboration between the school library information specialist and administrators or the instructional team, as well as school/public library cooperation. Charts show the integration of Pennsylvania academic standards into the AASL (American Association of School Librarians) information literacy standards and the integration of AASL information literacy standards into the Pennsylvania academic standards. Performance indicators for information literacy, independent learning, and social responsibility are identified as benchmarks for grades 3, 5, 8, and 11. An action plan for implementing information literacy standards is outlined, and a suggested library curriculum for benchmark grade levels three, five, and eight is presented. A student information literacy rubric offers an overview and framework based on the information literacy curriculum for one school district. Recommended collaboration and library research tools to assist school library information specialists to implement information literacy are provided. A glossary and a list of suggested professional journals are included. An AASL document on collaboration and Pennsylvania's "Proposed Academic Standards for Civics and Government" are appended.
