This book is intended to provide guidance to governing boards and CEOs in the development of successful and effective employment agreements. It is intended to help a community college president and a board of trustees to develop job security and confidence for the president, clear expectations and a meaningful evaluation system, and exit strategies for the benefit of the president, the board, and the institution. The book contains the following eight chapters: (1) "The Presidency," which deals with the nature of the presidency at the beginning of the 21st century; (2) "Contract Basics," which discusses basics, positives, and negatives of employment agreements; (3) "Term of Appointment," which reviews common terms and provisions of appointments; (4) "Expectations, Assessment, and Evaluation," which discusses the ways in which evaluations are linked to the future of the college; (5) "Standard Compensation and Benefits," which offers contract details ranging from base salary to travel compensation; (6) "Enhanced Compensation and Benefits," which expands on Chapter 5 to include provisions such as housing; (7) "The Termination Clause," which discusses different types of termination, as well as issues of notice and compensation; and (8) "A Successful Tenure," which provides conclusions and recommendations.
