Sport Foundations for Elementary Physical Education: A Tactical Games Approach.

This book provides a comprehensive, applied, and field-tested plan for using tactical games in teaching elementary physical education. The tactical games approach is taught by game category. For each game category, the book presents three progressive levels of units containing up to 30 detailed lesson plans. Each of the 90 lessons is designed to allow teachers flexibility in planning and progression and includes: a tactical problem, lesson focus, objective, games, practice tasks, and sets of problem solving questions and answers for ongoing assessment. Part 1, "A Tactical Games Approach," includes (1) "Introduction," (2) "A Tactical Games Approach at the Elementary Level," and (3) "Preparing Students for a Tactical Games Approach." Part 2, "Lesson Plans for Elementary Games Teaching," offers (4) "Sport Foundations for Invasion Games," (5) "Sport Foundations for Net/Wall Games," (6) "Sport Foundations for Striking/Fielding Games," and (7) "Sport Foundations for Target Games." Part 3, "Assessment and the Curriculum," offers (8) "Assessing Learning Outcomes," and (9) "The Tactical Games Curriculum Model." The book includes practical materials for teaching and assessment.
