Partners in Quality is a research and development project sponsored by the Canadian Child Care Federation and its affiliates to explore how child care providers, parents, and other partners can work together to support and improve quality in child care. This booklet, in both English and French, is the fourth in a series to support child care providers and to enhance the dialogue within communities on the importance of quality child care environments. The booklet is designed to be used for two workshops within the Partners in Quality series. Following introductory remarks, the booklet is organized into two parts. Part 1 defines "community," examines reasons for having community partnerships, suggests potential community partners, and discusses how partnerships differ from relationships. Part 2 considers the process of building and participating in community partnerships. This part details considerations in selecting partners, examines the potential role of government in community partnerships, and describes community partnerships in various Canadian localities. This part also discusses how partnerships function, outlines possible sources of funding, offers tips on working with the media, and makes suggestions for evaluation questions. Finally, the booklet summarizes the issues covered in the Partners in Quality project and concludes by asserting the importance of high quality child care and by identifying government initiatives to ensure that all children have access to quality child care.
