Kubey, Robert; Chen, Milton; Furger, Roberta; Considine, David; Andersen, Neil; Bergsma, Lynda; Prescott-Adams, Folami
Media literacy is the topic of this second white paper presented by Cable in the Classroom. Six different contributions were invited which give a variety of perspectives and recommendations to consider. A dialogue around the topic, and the paper itself, were also created; 29 educators (list of participants provided at the end of the document) were invited to read the paper, and to join the discussion on October 15, 2002 in Washington, DC. What ensued was the conversation, a transcript of which is presented at the end of this document. Contributions include: "Think, Interpret, Create" (Robert Kubey); "Empowered Parents: Role Models for Taking Charge of TV Viewing" (Folami Prescott-Adams); "Media Literacy and Prevention: Going Beyond 'Just Say No'" (Lynda Bergsma); "Parents and Teachers: Team Teaching Media Literacy" (Milton Chen, Sarah Armstrong, and Roberta Furger); "Media Literacy Across the Curriculum" (David M. Considine); and "New Media and New Media Literacy" (Neil Anderson).
