Cesar Chavez--Grade Twelve Model Curriculum and Resources.
California State Dept. of Education, Sacramento.
In this California state curriculum model for grade 12, "Principles of American Democracy," students study the life of Cesar E. Chavez. The students observe the direct relationship between his work and political philosophy and the U.S. political and legal system. Students examine how Chavez's ideas and actions are a blueprint for active citizenry. The curriculum presents a history/social science framework; addresses history/social science state standards; poses a focus question; cites expected learning outcomes; discusses assessment; lists key concepts; suggests an essential vocabulary, primary sources, and visuals; and provides a detailed step-by-step procedure for implementing the single lesson, "Agricultural Workers and Their Wages 1910-1995." A biography of Cesar Chavez,"Burning with a Patient Fire: The Legacy of Cesar Estrada Chavez" (Richard Griswold del Castillo) is included. (BT)
