The activities presented in this book are the product of the Community Outreach Initiative of the Microbial Literacy Collaborative (MLC). This activity book presents a balanced view of microbes, their benefits, and the diseases they cause. Each activity starts with an interesting introductory statement and includes goals, activity time, time to get ready, materials needed, getting ready, useful information, suggestions to modify the activity for those who are exceptional, more information, how to start the activity, making a hypothesis, what the data mean, and questions to think about, safety notes, what to do, and what was found out by doing the activity. Background information on the activities, general consideration for modification and assessment, and standard information are all included. The activities are divided into four categories: (1) "Tree of Life"; (2) "Keepers of the Biosphere"; (3) "Dangerous Friends and Friendly Enemies"; and (4) "Creators of the Future". (YDS)
