Finding Your Leadership Style: A Guide for Educators.
This book, written for prospective and practicing school supervisors, administrators, teachers, and other educational leaders, encourages them to assess their personal style of leadership in relation to their ability to provide leadership in schools and districts. Part 1 outlines and details seven leadership qualities--dynamic aggressives, dynamic assertives, dynamic supportives, adaptive aggressives, adaptive assertives, adaptive supportives, and creative assertives--providing examples and relevant information. Part 2 does the same for seven "universal" virtues that educational leaders should possess: courage, impartiality, empathy, judgment, enthusiasm, humility, and imagination. Part 3 pulls together the information from parts 1 and 2 by offering suggestions and strategies for actualizing one's own leadership quality, enhancing the universal virtues, and offering practical information for school leaders. Authentic scenarios illustrate the qualities of each leadership type. The book provides questionnaires, focus questions, and a feedback form in three appendices to help readers in analyzing their leadership potential. (Contains 57 references.) (RT)
