Special Education Annual Report, 2001-2002.
North Dakota State Dept. of Public Instruction, Bismarck. Div. of Special Education.
This annual report describes the special education students, programs, funding, and special projects for the 2001-2002 school year in North Dakota. During the 2001-2002 school year, 13,997 students, ages 0-21, with disabilities received special education services in the state. Of these, 13,595 were served in public and private schools and 402 students were served in state operated programs (state schools and infant development programs). This represents a slight decline from the previous year. The report finds continuing progress toward meeting the four broad goals of the Department of Public Instruction. A statistical summary of all special education units provides data on student ages, category of services, staffing, number of students placed in special education for the first time, child count, special education state funds, and federal funds. A statistical report on each of the 31 public programs is followed by similar reports on the seven state operated programs and private schools. Finally, status reports are offered for the North Dakota Advisory Committee for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (Part B), special grants, North Dakota Levels of Service Programs, and the North Dakota Governor's School.
