This video is one of a four-part series which is designed to introduce teachers and parents to standards and teaching in a standards-based environment, and aims to help teachers and parents understand how teaching with standards can change classrooms, work assignments, and student performance. This video focuses on classrooms where the teachers use reading and writing workshops to help their students learn and practice the skills good readers and writers need. In both of the classrooms depicted in the video, students work independently and in groups, and the teachers have an opportunity to fine-tune their teaching to individual needs and ensure that they help student practice the skills needed to met the English Language Arts standards.
