American Institutes for Research, Washington, DC.
This report summarizes the consensus statements developed by the Learning Disabilities Roundtable (February 2002), a meeting of the 10 member organizations of the National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities to provide input for the reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The Roundtable resulted in defined areas of consensus on essential issues related to the nature of specific learning disabilities, identification, eligibility, intervention, and professional development. Following an introduction section, this report is divided into three sections: (1) description of the methodology used to facilitate the consensus-building process; (2) a narrative description fo the statements of consensus developed by the Roundtable participants; and (3) a brief conclusion. Following the conclusion is a report developed by a Roundtable sub-group describing a promising problem-solving approach to identifying individuals with specific learning disabilities.
