This fact book for Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) for 1997-2001 details the history and organization of the College, as well as the population served, the campuses and extended learning institute, and accreditation, degrees, certificates, and curricula offered. Highlights include: (1) the unduplicated headcount for 2000-2001 was 60,884, while the full time equivalent student (FTES) enrollment count was 22,877; (2) the median age for fall 2001 was 24.9, compared with a median age of 26.6 in fall 1997; (3) the majority of the student population was female (54.7%) and White (52.0%); (4) 15.7% of students were Black, 13.5% Asian, 10.9% Hispanic, and 2.3% Native American; (5) 90.8% of students were in-state; (6) the College graduated 2,318 students in 2000-2001, an increase from the 106 graduates in 1966-67, yet a decline of 16% from 1996-97, when 2,753 students graduated; (7) 59.1% of graduates were female, while 58.3% of graduates were white; (8) the percentage of minority graduates rose from 32% in 1996-97 to 38% in 2000-01; (9) NVCC graduate surveys revealed that the median full-time salary for graduates was $36,000 for the 31.8% of graduates who were employed; and (10) total maintenance and operations expenditures for the College were $106,695,472, with 9% of that going to administrative faculty, and 37.68% going to part-time and full-time faculty.
