Working in a Legal and Regulatory Environment: A Handbook for School Leaders.
Sperry, David J.
The host of legal and regulatory parameters that bound the operation of a school and dictate how things must be done is a matter of significant concern to a new principal. Legal and regulatory requirements are different in different states and localities. Even in a single location, they change over time. The knowledge base is both enormous and changing. This book presents to the reader the principles, embodied in underlying values and concepts, that will provide the basis for understanding the knowledge base of the domain of educational law and regulation, for finding answers to specific questions about legal issues, and for enabling a proactive, preventative stance toward managing the legal and regulatory environment of the school. This book does not "teach the law" but enables the principal to understand and use the law. It provides models and strategies to help in growing in legal knowledge and in using that knowledge to support the mission of the school. Flow charts illustrate how these strategies may be implemented. Each chapter concludes with a list of references. (RT)
