The Morning Meeting Book. Strategies for Teachers Series.
This guidebook shows K-8 teachers how to implement Morning Meeting in their own classrooms. Morning Meeting is a daily routine that brings students and teachers together in a circle to greet one another, share and respond to each other's news, think together, play together, and look forward to the events of the coming day. It is designed to build community, create a climate of trust, increase student confidence and participation, improve literacy skills, and encourage cooperation, inclusion, and respect. The book includes step-by-step guidelines for implementing each component, clear explanations of the purposes of Morning Meeting, a chapter on Morning Meeting in middle school, suggestions for communicating with parents, and questions and answers about problems which frequently arise. Appendixes include: information on what children are learning in each component; a sample letter to parents about Morning Meeting; a description of modeling as a teaching technique; discussions of Morning Meeting with second language learners; Morning Meeting greetings; Morning Meeting activities; suggestions for creating news and announcements charts; and samples of news and announcements charts.
