Transition Drives the IEP.
Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities, Marion.
This guide is intended to help Ohio educators and parents involved in the transition of students with disabilities into the work place and community. It begins with some questions which may help to determine the student's own desires in the areas of employment, living skills, and community. Next, suggestions are provided to help the transition team prepare a transition plan that encourages thinking outside the box and eliciting what the student wants and thinks. Requirements for the transition plan under federal law are summarized next, followed by specific suggestions in the areas of employment and postsecondary education and the long-term outcomes of post-school/adult living and community participation. A sample transition plan is included. (DB)
