Le changement linguistique en ville: l'exemple de Bale (Linguistic Change in the City: The Example of Bale).
Hofer, Lorenz; Buhofer, Annelies Hacki
Travaux Neuchatelois de Linguistique (Tranel), n34-35 p203-17 Mar-Oct 2001
Dialect leveling in German-speaking Switzerland is different from dialect leveling in Germany. In contrast to lexical changes, phonological and morphological changes do not follow an evolutionary direction. Research from Basel, Switzerland shows different varieties of the urban repertoire, which are all considered "Baseldeutsch" by their speakers. Recent language changes are induced by contact with their Swiss German varieties. However, these changes show considerable individual differences. There is no unity in development. This leads to local dialects with more variation than can be observed in traditional varieties. (Contains 16 references and 3 tables.) (Author/VWL)
