Throughout the history of mathematics education, many studies have attempted to determine what constitutes "good" mathematics teaching and how such teaching can be put into practice. Missing in the literature, however, are the voices of secondary mathematics teachers and how they define good mathematics teaching. This study contributes to the discussion of characterizing good mathematics teaching by providing the perspectives of secondary mathematics teachers and how those perspectives compare with research and policy in mathematics education.
