Stories of a Corporate World: The Corporate Colonization of Narrative.
Combs, Jason E.
Following Stanley Deetz's (1992) work, this paper argues that storytelling can operate as a powerful medium for corporate colonization. Stories exist as sites where subjectivity forms through the intersection of various ideologies. As one such ideology, managerialism structures the world in ways that privilege the interests of corporate elites. Using Burke's (1931) concept form, the paper suggests that stories can draw audiences into the acceptance of premises about how they should act, such that they become managerial subjects with a particular narrative structure ordering their experiences.
