Statewide, District, and College Summaries. Report on Academic Performance of High School Graduates (A.R.S. 15-1822), FY 2000-2001.

This is a report on the 2000-2001 academic performance of Arizona community college students who are also Arizona high school graduates. The report provides information on the number of Arizona high school graduates enrolled in each community college during the academic year and the average grade point average (GPA) of these students in their first English and mathematics courses. The study examined four different levels of community college English courses enrolled in by high school graduates: (1) pre-freshman English; (2) freshman English; (3) advanced English; and (4) other. Five levels of community college math courses were also measured: (1) pre-intermediate algebra; (2) intermediate algebra; (3) college algebra; (4) calculus; and (5) other. Among the 20,301 Arizona high school graduates who enrolled in an Arizona community college in 2000-2001, the reported first-term average GPA was 2.5. High school graduates enrolled in "freshman" and "other" English courses had higher GPAs than high school graduates enrolled in the two other types of English courses. High school graduates enrolled in calculus and college algebra displayed higher GPAs than high school graduates enrolled in the other community college mathematics courses.
