Survey of Technology in the Schools: Preliminary Tables.

During the 1998-99 academic year, the Milken Family Foundation undertook the second annual survey of district technology coordinators. This report presents the following survey data from 3,800 districts in 27 states: response rates; size of districts; student uses of technology; student outcomes; teacher uses of technology; percentage of student classroom time spent using technology; number of queries regarding planning and implementation of technology; teacher attitude toward technology; teacher training; skills level of typical teacher; extent to which teachers in district use technology in their own practice; district tracking policy; how often districts evaluate technology use in schools; extent to which district uses technology in student assessment efforts; teacher incentives for technological fluency or technology use; progress indicators that district reports to local school board and/or community; level of support for technology plans by groups; sources of funding or in-kind goods and services for technology to date; extent to which specific uses of technology occur in district; schools in district that have formal partnerships that focus on school technology; districts that have a formal technology plan; cost and funding of district technology plan; expenditure per student per year; student to computer ratio; connectivity; technical support and maintenance for technology; computers that are not used; and federal funds and discounts.
