Community College Institutional Profiles.
New Jersey State Commission on Higher Education.
This report profiles 19 public two-year colleges in the state of New Jersey. Each profile includes the number of students, faculty and trustees, and the ratio of full-time to part-time faculty at each college. Student characteristics such as gender, ethnicity, full-time or part-time status, financial assistance received, graduation and transfer rates, and need for remediation are examined. The measure of need for remediation considers the subject areas of reading, writing, computation and algebra and is based on first-time students' test scores. Figures on each of the above student measures are organized and presented in tables. Additional tables report the gender, ethnicity, and tenure status of full-time faculty, as well as the gender and ethnic backgrounds of the institution's trustees. Finally, five examples of public service and/or research activities and a list of major capital projects at each campus are described. Highlights for Atlantic County College, fall 1998 semester, include: (1) 64% of students needed some type of remediation; (2) total enrollment was 4,987--66% white, 16% African American, 9% Hispanic, and 6% Asian; and (3) there were 62 full-time faculty members employed at the college, half as many as part-time faculty. The numerous figures presented in this report come from data spanning the years 1995 to 1998. (JCC)
