Maui Community College Campus Safety and Security.

This document discusses campus safety at Maui Community College (MCC) (Hawaii). MCC is situated on 75 acres of land; the campus population is approximately 2,700 day and night students, with a faculty and staff of approximately 175. The report presents information on campus security services, procedures for reporting crimes and emergencies, accessing campus facilities, crime prevention programs, the use of alcoholic beverages, illegal drug and weapon prohibition, and procedures for handling sexual offences on the campus. Also offered is a list of safety precautions and phone numbers for local assistance programs and services. Between academic year 1996 and 1998, the following crimes were reported on campus: one assault, five burglaries, three auto thefts, and one violation of the liquor laws. The campus has 24-hour security and does both foot and vehicle patrols; a full range of public safety services, including incident reports, investigations, and enforcement of college policies regarding alcohol, drugs, and weapons is also provided on campus. Crime prevention programs include an escort service for persons walking on campus at night and facilities and grounds surveys to maintain safety and security and to remove hazards. (LD)
