This handbook is designed to help high school counselors advise students about financial aid for postsecondary education. It focuses on the student financial aid programs administered by the U.S. Department of Education. The book includes supplementary materials designed to encourage high school students to consider postsecondary education as an avenue to a more rewarding career. This handbook is divided into three parts: "General Information about Postsecondary Opportunities"; "Application Process for Financial Aid"; and "Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid." Appendix A is "Sources of Additional Information"; Appendix B is "Directory of State Agencies"; and Appendix C contains sample handouts. A glossary is also provided. (GCP)
