Iowa Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance Program Development Guide: Kindergarten-Community College.
Iowa State Dept. of Education, Des Moines. Bureau of Technical and Vocational Education.
This resource guide for comprehensive counseling and guidance programs provides counselors, student service personnel, and administrators of Iowa's K-12 schools and community colleges with a means to improve or design programs. With the rapidly changing global society and the increase in violence at all levels of society, there is a critical need for programs to integrate skills and knowledge that will develop productive citizens for the future. This guide provides a framework for the organization, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive program. It is a tool for educators that incorporates current research with best practice. The guide covers the four foundational components of the comprehensive program (guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and systems support) and the three key domains (personal and social skill development, career planning, and academic planning.) Sections include: (1) "Overview of the Guidance Program"; (2) "Connecting the Iowa Initiatives"; (3) "The Process of Change"; (4) "Standards and Benchmarks"; (5) "Counselor Role"; (6) "Program Implementation"; (7) "Evaluation and Assessment"; and (8) "Sample Lesson Design Formats and Templates." (Contains 112 references.) (JDM)
