Class of 2000: The Prejudice Puzzle[SM]. A Teachers' Guide. A Presentation of National Public Radio[R] Specials Project.
Belanus, Betty J.
This teachers' guide accompanies a series of reports from National Public Radio's "Class of 2000: The Prejudice Puzzle," which was broadcast on September 9-15, 1990. The series explores the impact of prejudice on the lives of young people through several interviews from a diverse student population. The guide includes synopses of the National Public Radio (NPR) reports, discussion questions for use with each report, and learning activities for students based on the reports. Section 2 summarizes recent prejudice reduction research. Sections 3, 4 and 5 present story discussions, classroom, and out-of-classroom activities to explore students' attitudes toward themselves and each other. Exercises for elementary, junior high/middle, and high school students are discussed separately. The appendix lists readings, both fiction and nonfiction, for juveniles, young adults, and adults on a range of prejudice-related topics. (EH)
