The University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) reports on the growth and landmark achievements that made the year 2000 very important for the University. The remote connections the University works to foster, including distance education offerings, and the local efforts that include extensive recruiting and flexible class schedules generated a record-setting fall enrollment in year 2000 of 7,580 with gains reported in all four of the university's schools. Minority students have made a major impact on the school's enrollment profile, reaching 2,076 in the fall of 2000. UHCL reports that its fastest growing academic programs are in computer-related fields. Two new degree programs were implemented in 2000, a master of science in systems engineering and a bachelor of social work, and among its notable programs, the UHCL describes its Success through Education Program which prepares teachers in collaboration with local school districts. UHCL complements such efforts with global partnerships that accelerate the exchange of learning and foster worldwide communication and understanding. The report also contains information about research grants and financial support through contributions to the President's Cabinet and other giving-level groups. An honor role of contributors is included with information about donations and UHCL expenditures. (SLD)
