Compendium of National Data Sources on Higher Education. Fifth Edition.
Russell, Alene Bycer; Winter, Susan B.
This compendium is a guide to the major national data resources related to higher education in the United States. Designed to support quality educational research and policy analysis, the Compendium describes 100 resources, including general references as well as resources pertaining to students and learning, faculty and staff, finance and facilities, K-12 education, adult and workforce education, and other topics. To be included, data sources must be regional, national, or international in scope. They must be updated on a periodic basis, generally available to the public, and useful for research and policy analysis in relation to postsecondary education. Types of data sources are varied, but they include primary data sources and surveys, analytic reports, statistical digests and sourcebooks, web sites, and other information resources. Information for each source includes the organization or agency name, a description of the resource, information on data collected, availability, contact information, and keywords. The sources are grouped into these sections: (1) "General References"; (2) "Students and Learning"; (3) "Faculty and Staff"; (4) "Finance and Facilities"; (5) K-12"; (6) "Adult/Workforce"; and (7) "Other Resources."
