Panel of Scholar's Report on the Nevada School Accountability Program, School Year 1994-95.
Chapman, Carolyn, Ed.
During the 1993 session, the Nevada State Legislature passed a School Accountability bill (NRS 385.347 revised), which required all school districts in the state to inform the public on the performance of public schools. School accountability is accomplished through a system of reports to the public and the State Board of Education. Each year the Board of Trustees of each school district is required to prepare an accountability report in three parts: individual school accountability reports, a districtwide school accountability report, and a report on the effectiveness of the district's accountability program. The Nevada Review Panel on School District Accountability conducts an independent review of the accountability report and submits recommendations. This document presents a comprehensive review of the panel's findings based on the analysis of all the accountability reports, submitted in spring 1996 from school districts for the 1994-95 school year. The accountability program of each school district is analyzed in five sections: (1) a summary of student-performance and school characteristics; (2) areas of exemplary achievement or improvement; (3) areas in need of improvement at the school site; (4) summary of the school district's plans for improvement at the school site; and (5) recommendations for improving the analysis and use of accountability findings at the school and district levels. Three tables are included. Appendices contain a copy of Senate Bill No. 511: NRS 385.347 and a letter from the Office of the Attorney General regarding NRS 385.347. (LMI)
