These two newsletters for 1997 highlight the following topics and issues. The July issue reports that community and technical colleges are moving to performance funding as a result of the 1997 Washington state legislature including a performance evaluation proviso for all public higher education institutions. Another article is featured on data mining, a process of extracting unknown and comprehensible information from large databases in order to make decisions, is of increasing interest to the educational community. Other topics on empowering research and distance education in Oregon are also covered. In the November issue, the front-page article discusses the learning revolution by which the learner and goals of learning are placed first. The article is followed by procedural recommendations and discussion questions. Information on workforce training is also mentioned and advertised as a sound and worthwhile investment. The Association for Institutional Research's (AIR) 1998 Grant Program is announced and detailed. Both newsletters also highlight regional news and messages from the president. (JJL)
