This guide for parents of gifted children answers frequently asked questions, identifies resources, and text of relevant California laws and regulations. Preliminary material includes an introduction and a "Declaration of the Educational Rights of the Gifted Child" by Barbara Clark. Part 1 provides answers to parents' questions concerning: characteristics of gifted children, identification of gifted children, available programs, social and emotional needs, special challenges, and parent advocacy. Part 2 lists resources for parents and students. These include: position statements, services, and publications of the California Association for the Gifted (CAG); examples of characteristics of gifted students; journals; associations; organizations and programs; research centers; educational resources online; free and almost free informational materials; and acronyms related to gifted education in California and elsewhere. Part 3 contains portions of the California laws and regulations governing programs for gifted students in public schools. Part 4 contains an annotated list of recommended books for parents.
