It's about Time: Kindergarten Model Lesson for Standard 5. California History-Social Science Course Models.
In this unit, students develop concepts of "time" as they place events in temporal order. The focus is on the routine events of a school day, the days of a week, the months of a year, and the use of a calendar. The 4-week unit provides background information for the teacher, presents literacy links, identifies materials needed, and offers focus questions. It outlines the topic information in detail: "Beginning the Topic"; "Developing the Topic"; and "Culminating the Topic." The assessment of the lesson is integrated with the instruction and occurs throughout the lesson. It is recommended that student work be assembled into a portfolio and suggests some evidence of attainment work . Lists 22 resources for the sample topic. A sample parent letter, questionnaire, and several handouts are appended. (BT)
