Development of a Computer-Based College Algebra Course.
Garza, Javier; Havlak, Karl; Riggs, Elisabeth; White, Peter
Currently, in Texas public schools, there is a shortage of teachers holding secondary mathematics teaching certification. Many teachers have limited access to professional development opportunities due to occupational commitments, geographic proximity, family obligations, or inconvenience of transportation. However, with the incorporation of technology in Texas school systems, these teachers would have the means to participate in a computer-based mathematics course designed to help them prepare for the certification exams. In this paper, the authors discuss the development of a computer-based College Algebra course and related issues such as generic (text-independent) content, Web-based delivery formats and web publishing software.
