The Internet Resource Directory for K-12 Teachers and Librarians. 2001-2002 Edition.
Miller, Elizabeth B.
Updated and expanded, the 2001-2002 edition of this directory is the eighth in a series of annual publications for identifying the most current, appropriate, and trustworthy Web sites for integration into the school curriculum. The directory presents a broad sampling of some of the best Internet resources for educators, school library media specialists, students, and parents. With 1,523 entries, this edition has 1,086 more entries than the original edition published in 1994, more than 270 new and updated entries since last year. All entries continue to remain selective and evaluative, rather than comprehensive. Annotated entries help users determine the more useful resources for their specific information needs and suggest ways to integrate resources in the curriculum. National and state standards provide benchmarks for learning for students, teachers, and parents. Whenever possible, online resources for national and state standards are listed at the beginning of each chapter. Cross-references have been added, making it simple to locate various resources on a single topic or theme. This directory is divided into 11 chapters, each addressing a different area of the K-12 curriculum. Curriculum area chapters include: "The Arts: Visual Art, Dance, Music, Theatre"; "Computer Science"; "Foreign Language Studies and Cultural Appreciation"; "Language Arts"; "Mathematics"; "Science"; "Applied Arts and Sciences: Vocational Education, Driver's Education, Family Life Education, Health & Safety, Horticulture, Physical Education, Sport Science, and Sports"; "Social Studies, Geography, and Social Sciences." Two chapters, "Resources for Educators" and "The School Library: The School Information Resource Center," contain professional information as well as lesson plans and general information specific to education, K-12 schools, and the school library media center. The "Reference" chapter focuses on resources that can be used across the curriculum. A free Web page ( provides updates to all entries listed in the 2001-2002 edition.
