This report presents activities, accomplishments, and conclusions of the Eisenhower Southwest Consortium for the Improvement of Mathematics and Science Teaching (SCIMAST) for the fiscal years 1996-2000. SCIMAST was established in 1992 and supports mathematics and science learning in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. This report is organized into five sections: (1) overview; (2) implementation and management; (3) quality and utility; (4) outcomes and impacts; and (5) summary and conclusion. For the long term, SCIMAST will support educational change for high quality mathematics and science education in the Southwestern region. The appendices include activities over the last five years by state, performance indicator report, SCIMAST cost share, and summary impacts as reported by the Professional Development Awards (PDA) projects.
