This is the 28th edition of salary and wage studies conducted annually by the Educational Research Service. It collects salary data from a national panel sample of school systems for 22 professional and 10 support positions. Consistency in study design and procedures through the years has also made this the definitive study of salary changes in education. It incorporates such recent improvements as classification of central-office administrators by responsibility levels, summary data on daily pay rates, percentile rankings of summary data for four enrollment groups (by number of students enrolled), and five levels of expenditure per pupil. Section 1 covers changes in salaries scheduled and paid over the past decade for selected professional and support positions. Section 2 offers information on salaries and wages paid, as well as average daily rates for the current school year. Section 3 examines scheduled salaries and wages. Unlike data on salaries actually paid, scheduled salaries are not affected by factors such as education, number of years' experience, or the longevity of people in the position. An appendix explains sampling procedures, instructions to respondents, followup efforts for those districts not responding, and procedures for salary data given in some other format.
