Curriculum for Establishing a Proactive School-Wide Discipline Plan.
Colvin, Geoff; Sugai, George; Kameenui, Edward
This handbook has been designed to assist educators in their attempts to assess, develop, implement, and monitor schoolwide discipline programs. It contains the main components and implementation guidelines for a complete schoolwide discipline plan. Brief explanations, procedural guidelines, examples, and worksheets are included to enable users to build and/or modify a schoolwide discipline plan that meets the unique needs of their students and staff. The same instructional approach used to teach academic content and skills is applied systematically to the teaching of appropriate social behaviors to students described as "at-risk,""disadvantaged,""behavior disordered,""emotionally disturbed,""underachieving," and so forth. This handbook contains practical features such as worksheet activities and illustrative examples of guidelines and principles. Used in combination with its accompanying implementation guide, it should provide educators with the knowledge base to meet the classroom management and behavioral needs of all students, particularly those with disabilities in mainstream or general education environments. This handbook can help enable building educators to assume greater responsibility for their own staff development objectives, activities, and outcomes, and to improve the services and experiences they provide for all students in their classrooms and buildings.
