Electronic Student Portfolios. K-College.
Ash, Linda E.
This book shows educators how to put technology to use in their classrooms as a tool for student reflection and assessment, demonstrating how teachers can help students create electronic portfolios that illustrate their command of subject matter. The book is arranged in a progression by plugging in portfolio example projects in each chapter. Chapter 1, "Where To Begin," sets the stage for the importance of implementing electronic portfolios in K-12 teaching and learning. Chapter 2, "Fitting the Tools to the Task," explains the hardware and software needed to begin. Chapter 3, "Best Practices in an Electronic Environment," and Chapter 4, "Getting Started," provide options for educators who have the basics under their belt and who need concrete implementation strategies for all grade levels. Chapter 5, "Gaining Proficiency," introduces vision categories to link essential skills to content area standards. Chapter 6, "Managing a Restructured Classroom To Include Electronic Portfolios," discusses effective project organization, room arrangement, safety issues, scheduling, grouping, and job assignments at grade-appropriate levels. Chapter 7, "Communicating Achievement," aligns curriculum, instruction, and assessment to measure student learning. A Unit Plan with Integrated Activities from other classes and a list of Internet Resources are appended. (Contains 36 references.) (SM)
